Identity Theft

Identity Theft and IRS fraud callers are becoming a huge problem for taxpayers
and anyone who becomes a victim of their ploys. As scam artist become more creative in
their tactics, as taxpayers and consumers we need to be more vigilant in protecting our
personal information as ever. A recent report from the FBI and IRS known by the term
"IRS Impersonation Scam" shows that the caller is threatening the victim with being
arrested if "They Do Not Settle With Them Immediately." Identity theft can rob us from
getting the tax return due us to getting a loan from a bank impossible.

Having been a victim myself of Identity theft I was at a loss for what I needed to
do to correct the problem. It took me nearly a week to contact all the correct agencies,
and almost a month to resolve the issue. During this time being patient is key, I found
using a pocketed folder to keep all letters and correspondence in was well worth the
$.50 it cost. You will be mailed many things that will need to filled out and sent back to
them. Always make a copy before you send it back to them.

I personally went to each credit bureaus web page and enacted a credit freeze.
What this does is stops anyone from pulling your credit report. Some people say that
this is not necessary, I felt it was the best way to stop scam artist from opening any new
lines of credit in my name.

If you become the victim of such a tactic, the IRS and the FTC have many
resources for dealing with the issues that come up with Identity theft Here are some.
